The purpose of college day Thursday is to create a college-going culture among students at Griffith, and to inspire and support students in their pursuit of a college education. The 2015 East Area Choices Fair will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the ESC East Office located at 2151 N. Soto St. Los Angeles 90032. At the fair, elementary, middle and high school Magnet schools will have representatives on hand to provide information about their unique Magnet programs. This is an excellent opportunity for parents and students to discover everything that Magnet schools in Local District East have to offer. Please click on the pdf below for information.

This year, the Choices/Opciones Magnet application window is from Oct.1 through Nov. 13. All parents are encouraged to apply online at http://echoices.lausd.net/; however, paper Choices/Opciones brochures/applications will be accepted and are available at all LAUSD schools, offices, and public libraries during the application period. Parents and guardians can submit a meal application online.

The online application will be processed within 24 hours, and you will not have to fill out a paper application and mail it or hand it over to the Food Services Manager at your child's school.
 
The meal application process is federally mandated and the Food Services Division must follow all applicable regulations in order to continue to receive reimbursement funds. Each year the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division, must approve our meal application. Once approved, we begin the annual process of qualifying students for free and reduced meal benefits. We realize the process can often be quite confusing for parents and caregivers. Parents and guardians can submit a meal application online.

All students entering and advancing to the 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap booster vaccine.

Children must have required immunizations before they can attend school in
California. Parent/Guardian must present their child’s Immunization Record to
school staff as proof of immunization prior to admission. Please be sure that your child receives his/her Tdap vaccination prior to entering or advancing into the 7th grade and that the proof of Tdap immunization is on file in our Nurse's Office. This is an invitation to Griffith Middle School’s incoming 6th and 7th grade Parent Orientation Program for the 2015/2016 school year. We sincerely hope you can attend our school at 10:00AM or at 4:00 PM on Thursday, August 13th for this orientation.  Our meeting location will be in the auditorium.  Both meetings will provide the same information and will both be in English and Spanish.  There will be staff at the front door to assist you.

 

The orientation program will begin promptly at 10:00AM and 4:00 PM, and we ask that you make every effort to arrive promptly. Parking can be a challenge.

 

We look forward to welcoming you into the Griffith family. Our goal is to work closely with you to provide a cooperative and supportive environment where every child can learn. Together we can achieve this goal.

 

School will start on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 7:56AM to 1:28PM.  6th grade teachers will meet in the auditorium at 7:50 am and sit in a designated row in the front of the auditorium. 6th graders will meet their first period teachers in the auditorium, and go to their period one class from there.  New incoming 7th grade students will check Student Locators, posted throughout the campus, for the location of their FIRST PERIOD.

Dear Parent/Guardians, 

Welcome to a new year at David Wark Griffith Middle School! 

I am excited to be back with our Griffith family and we are ready to have another great year. For those of you who are new to our family, my name is Ms. Rose Anne Ruiz, and I have worked as an educator for the Los Angeles School District for over 12 years. I have worked in the field of special education for over eleven years, and I have been an assistant principal at two different schools, Stevenson Middle School and Garfield High School. 

I came to Griffith Middle School having served in the District for 14 years.  Last school year, we implemented our College-Going-Culture thanks to a partnership with East Los Angeles College.  Our students were enrolled in college classes that transfer to high school credits and college units.  We will continue to offer this program to our students.  We are the only middle school in Local District East to have a seven period day.  This means we will provide our students with elective classes.  We are committed to providing our children with a quality education and ensuring that our students are prepared for high school.   

We have fully implemented the Common Core State Standards.  These standards focus on “real-world applications” for learning.  One of the major goals of Common Core is to prepare students to meet the demands of 21st century job market and we will offer programs that will enhance student learning.  I am confident that our students will excel. 

Please take a moment to read the following information, which outlines dates and other information that will help get your child’s school year off to a great start.  If you have any questions after reviewing this information, please stop in or call our school office at 323-266-7410.
