The English Learner Program provides standards-based English Language Development Instruction and Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) for students acquiring the English Language.  

Our instructional approaches and techniques help develop our students English language development skills in order to be college and career ready. 

The LAUSD Master Plan for English Learners and Standard English Learners takes an assets-based approach towards instruction so that our students languages and cultures are valued, supported, encouraged, and enhanced. Students engage in rigorous academic instruction to challenge and develop their language development. 

What is the ELPAC?

The English Language Proficiency Assessment  for California is the primary language assessment given annually to all students whose primary language is other than English.  The ELPAC is administered once a year in the Spring and initially to all students enrolling for the first time in a California school. 

What is the reclassification criteria?

The LAUSD Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department provides a criteria chart for reclassification. Criteria requirements vary between grade levels. Please see the available pdf copies of the criteria chart for your information.

How can I, as a parent of an EL students, be more involved?

Parents are welcomed to volunteer on our campus by signing up with the Griffith Parent Center. Additionally, school sites are required to have an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The ELAC meets once a month to review, discuss, and council the school site, principal, and major stakeholders on issues pertaining to English Learners.
